What are some of you people’s favorite VERY hot loads for a 55grain .223 round? Just plain ball ammo. Preferring around 3000fps at the muzzle.

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmPlenty of powders will get you there and 3000fps may not be any warmer than a full power 5.56 loading depending on bbl length.
CFE, TAC, AR Comp, XBR, etc. I prefer ball powder but that’s a subjective and different discussion entirely.

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmCFE works for me. I’m not trying to push them that fast though. My barrel won’t let me get there. 14.5 pinned and weld like to spew fire balls of unburned prefer.

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmCFE 223 with book loads gets you there but accuracy with CFE 223 may suffer, just my experience YMMV. Honest question, do you define “very hot” as over book charges and why the need to run “very hot”?

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmA 20″ barrel with cheap Federal XM193 will break 3200.

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pm3000 is ‘very hot’? Is this real life?

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmCfe and BLC2 took 28.5 grains and still didn’t give good velocities. Win 748 gave me better velocities at 26.5 than the previous powders.

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmA friend was shooting some Black Hills Match 55 gr ammo, I noticed several cases had primers blown out. He bagged the ammo and called BH about it. When he gave them the lot number they told him that was part of a recalled lot, the loading was averaging about 4250 fps. Have to admit it was accurate at 300 yds though.

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmFor 223 pure accuracy you are after 25.2 to 25.4gn of ADI 2208 which is equivalent to AA2520, N201, Varget or IMR4064 for you not in Australia. Why run hot if not accurate?

GuestJuly 7, 2020 at 4:37 pmFavorite hot load for me is 27.2 gr of TAC. Get about 3150 out of 16″ barrel
