So I have this 224 ar I built. And it’s been nothing but trouble the whole time. I thought it was the barrel cause the primer strikes were kinda off center so faxon ended up swapping me a new one for free. I’ve put multiple scopes on it I’ve litteraly tried everything the only things I haven’t switched are the upper reciever and the bcg. I just understand cause I have a pretty cheap ar with a government barrel that will run laps around this entirely match grade component one. For ammo Ive been using 88gr Hornady match and I also tried 75gr federal. The guns running about 3 moa and at this point I’m just so frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.

I have never met anyone that’s had good luck with 224V as an accurate cartridge. Good ballistics numbers, but always accuracy issues. If it were me, I would ditch it for something else.

Its possible you have headspace issues with that bcg. Maybe not likely, but possible.

And are you putting your barrel and upper together? Are you sure you’re not tightening the barrel nut too much?

If you shoot irons only, how accurate is it? When installing a scope, what mount are you using? When installing the scope in the rings/mount, are you using a TQ wrench to the right spec? What’s your shooting platform like? What trigger are you using?

If you don’t reload you’re limited. I’ve found the 224 to be really picky.

Try some more factory loads until you find on that works. The federal 75 is a plinking load, not a match load. If the 88s aren’t good, look for the federal 90gr smk or the federal loaded with the 80.5gr bergers.

There are also some boutique ammo makers that will help you find a load that works then manufacture it for you. Expensive, but I hear it works.

I would swap it out for a bolt gun in a similar cartridge like 22 CM.

    /s but really I would

It be terrible luck, but maybe you got two bad barrels. Let me know if you figure it out. I just bought a 6.5 grendel and it is grouping horribly. Going to try some hand loads and then a barrel swap.

Check your barrel lead and find a seating depth that works for you. My guess is your seating depth is too far away from a node. If you have looked at the chamber, cleaned the barrel properly, have torqued everything correctly and aren’t achieving the accuracy your used to with 5.56 then it’s the ammo or the barrel.
