I ended up getting myself a heavy threaded barrele model 10 in 6.5 Creed for my birthday. It’s the bottom bolt release model. It shoots wonderfully even with the junk scope I have on it. I really want to turn this into something great but I don’t have unlimited funds.

Now the rifle itself was about $500ish used and I’m looking to put maybe another 1000-1500 into it with glass, stock, and other accessories. The trigger has already been gunsmithed and is remarkably smooth and crisp. So far I was looking at a vg6 muzzle and a decent bipod.

I love the look of mdt ess systems, however 1000 just on the chassis would limit my glass and accessory options. A friend of mine has a recreation m40a5 and that style stock is super comfortable as well. I’ve seen the archangel stuff from promag and they look kinda cool, with a pretty great price point, but they seem to be kind of a joke in terms of actual quality. So what I’m looking for is something with a decent vertical grip angle that will fit my rifle with either mlok etc. Style attachments and adjustable cheek and length of pull.

Is there a point of diminishing returns with stocks in terms of stability and durability? And for a 2000k ish rifle project where 500 is already spoken for where should the rest of my money really be aimed.

    Edit*
Realized I left a few things out. I plan on competing a little, just getting into the sport a bit and hunting with this rifle. I’m not afraid of weight as I’ve done Backcountry elk hunting in wyoming, Colorado and Utah, with 15 pound rifles.

Also would it be a better idea to start with other mods to the existing setup? I.e. drill in a cheek riser kind of thing

I’ve got an MPA chassis I’d sell to you but not before you pick up good glass. Savage is robust enough, the glass will make a bigger difference.

Glass. Spend as much of your budget on glass as possible *first*. Then consider your other accessories. If you have to put off buying a chassis because you spent $1,000 on glass do it every time.

I’ve got a Savage 110 tactical in 6.5 CM, and the rest of my money went into a scope ($800), bipod, cheek rest, rings, level, cleaning kit, PPE, torque wrench, scope covers, extra mags, bipod feet and lock because it kept moving, rangefinder, spotting scope and decent tripod, heavy duty pelican case, dehumidifier and desiccate, Area 419 muzzle break, and finally ammo. I. Am. Broke…

But when I’m not broke, I’ll be interested in any answers to this post about the stock. It shoots sub moa without upgrading the stock though.
