I’m looking to get my dad some fishing gear for Christmas (he’s new to fishing) and I want to make sure that I get him the right gift. Is there any headache/pain point that you have when fishing that can be avoided with some type of tool/product? I want to see what’s available to buy for him as a gift. Thanks!

Fishing is kind of a very specific sport.

For example. I do mostly surf fishing for Pompano. I have all the rods and reels I need. So the only things I use up are 30 pound flouro leader, tiny floats the size of the marshmallows you put in hot chocolate, sand flea fishbites, and 1/0 circle hooks. The only other things I use are when I go offshore and are provided by the boat.

So if you buy me anything other than those very specific things, you have wasted your money. Every other type of fishing is just as specific. So if you don’t know fishing it’s really hard to pick a gift for a fisherman.

I found a few places I might go speckled trout fishing next spring. But if I told you to get me some speckled trout terminal tackle would you even have an idea what to get me?

But you know what. The best thing you could EVER get him is a rod and reel for yourself.

I would do anything to fish with my dad one more time.

Getting your lure hung up is always a pain. You can buy something like the Bass Pro Shop EZ Lure Retriever. It pays for itself after 5 or so uses depending on your lures.

It has personally saved me over a few hundred dollars in what would have been hung up and lost lures.
