So ATF Form 4 is to purchase fun toys (fast boys, short boys, quiet boys, etc).

Form 1 is to make fun toys. For example I could submit a plan to build a suppressor, same price for the tax stamp. I could submit a plan to saw down a bolt action rifle into an SBR, still $200 tax stamp, just as legal.

    My question is this:

Suppose I wanted to saw down a bolt action rifle into an SBR and then weld a suppressor that I will build onto the end. Legally this isn’t an SBR if the can on the end takes the length back over 16″ because it isn’t removable. However, in the time it takes me to saw it down, thread it, and weld on the can, I will temporarily possess an SBR without the paperwork.

Do I need to file 2 Form 1’s, or just the one for the can?

    Anyone have experience with this?

    r/NFA is your friend.

But…remove the barrel, chop it, crown it, and then pin and weld the supp, and you’d be good to go. But make 10000% certain you’re following ATF guidelines about how you pin and weld the can to your barrel. Or give your dog(s) to a close friend.

r/NFA might be a better place to ask

Remove the barrel first, then saw, then attach suppressor, then put barrel back on.

    Or don’t, I won’t tell
