This is mainly about Virginia but it can and has happened elsewhere.
Here is the “compromise” tactic that anti-gun politicians use:
They introduce ridiculously restrictive bills proposing legislation that is so outlandish and restrictive, nobody thinks it will pass. As it is being ripped to shreds and heavily contested, they offer a “compromise”.
It sounds like this:
“I won’t ban any gun that uses a magazine, if you just agree to limit magazines to 15 rounds”
It boils down to:
“We’ll back down on X, if you give me Y”
It is NOT a fucking compromise. We gain NOTHING. It’s an abusive tactic, and we need to stop breathing a sigh of relief when some draconic bill gets turned into a weaker version of itself. It is NOT a win for us. It becomes death by a thousand cuts. I don’t want to see Virginians revelling when an extremely neutered bill is passed that gives nothing and only takes.
Sorry about getting on the soapbox. As a Virginia resident I feel like I can already see what is going to happen. It has worked other places, they WILL do it again.

I moved to Maine for the beautiful scenery, the simple living, and the wonderful seasons. But mostly the gun laws. Now I’m being followed by precisely the type of people I moved here to avoid, and they want to restrict my right to bear arms. They left a place they didn’t like to go somewhere they did like and make it more like the place they left, it makes no sense. Why do they do this?

Never forget that the Brady Bill WAS a compromise that included an exemption for ALL private transactions (now called the gun show loophole) and a provision that a sale couldn’t be held up indefinitely “to conduct a background check” becoming a defacto ban (now called the Charleston loophole).
When contacting your legislators remind them of these facts and they’ll them THIS IS WHY WE DON’T TRUST YOU when you propose a “compromise.” You’ve PROVEN you can’t be trusted.
Yesterday’s compromises are today’s loopholes.

My constitutional rights are not up for compromise.

Every compromise is a step toward confiscation. Men didn’t create natural rights and they have no authority to compromise them.

Every time we meet in the middle, we get further to their side. They can not say the same, because they have never compromised.

Abusive is right.
“So I’m hearing that you don’t like it when I get horrendously drunk every night of the week and beat on you. How about we compromise and I only get drunk on Friday nights and beat on you? That sounds like a good compromise.”

We must demand prosecution of those who write and enforce these mass civil rights violations.

It’s the oldest trick in the book and unfortunately, it still works.

This happens in California every. single. year.

Not one fucking inch.
King_BurnsideGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 12:28 pm
And this is why I don’t support the NRA. They’re morally corrupt and will get a President to ban things before the anti-gunners do, all while paying for $400k shopping sprees for board members
EbalosusGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 12:28 pm
Their version of “compromise” is akin to being held at gunpoint by a criminal and asked to “compromise” on my wallet and money: all take and no give.
