Did Open Carry backfire in this instance?
benderthedog3339GuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
That is how the 2nd is intended to be used
jsaranczakGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
It succeeded in that it exposed the racist intentions behind gun control.
armed5153GuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
Sounds about right, a bill is introduced targeting a specific group, that group responds by protest. Another bill is drafted making their protest illegal, and making it illegal for everyone else who wasn’t protesting to do the same thing. Sounds like gun control defined.
soggybottommanGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
Negative, that is what it’s for, they just got infringed on hard.
30calmagazineclipGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
no. racist politicians would have attempted more gun control targeting blacks anyway.
user072978GuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
Nope because Nationally they helped get universal rights in 1968 right after more guncontrol got passed.
If you look at the history of all gun control it is to apply to the poor and the working man not the rich dude at the top.
Want to own a tank with a live cannon and machine guns all over it. Sure go ahead as long as you have the money to afford a 100k transferrable M2 Heavy Machine gun and the tax stamps for the MG, The cost of an Cannon that can be reactivated to fire, and each shell of cannon ammo. So yes only rich people have the right to overthrow and suppress…
DingledorfTheDentistGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
I wouldn’t say it backfired. The politicians were so racist that they were going to do whatever racist things they wanted regardless. It was out of the Panthers’ hands at that point.
EdwardteechGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
Same old shit. Gun control isn’t about guns its about control.
sn4ggl32thGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
No, that was just the government being racist tyrants.
UrHeftyLeftyBestyGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
The NRA was not in any way, shape, or form the same organization in 1967 as it was in 1968. In 1967 the NRA was made up of almost no one but “hunters and sportsmen.” The NRA did not have a lobbying arm in 1967, and the “support” of the NRA may well have meant Mulford called up his buddies at the local hunting lodge. It wasn’t until the King and Kennedy assassinations in 1968 that there were widespread calls for gun control and the NRA became what it is today.
Fun fact, the first person arrested under the Mulford Act was a White Republican who fell asleep in his truck with a loaded shotgun and was dispossessed of his weapon and his freedom for it.

nomad2152GuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
Wait a minute, NRA supported this? If so, someone better tell Colion Noir.
FaustoLGGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
So… Democrat California has always been racist towards blacks… WHO KNEW?
IlovemakingbombsGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
It backfired because everyone else decided not to support them.
JethroFireGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
But he had jelly beans…
LowtanGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
It was the right move back then. I’d LOVE to see this happening nationwide. You’d never hear about an abuse of power by cops.

>Let’s cool it, brothers

Don’t kill the messenger folks – (**I am not advocating,** **nor will I** ***ever,*** **for any kind of gun control legislation or policies**) – this is just discussion here
At the risk of being napalmed as a racist, what I’m asking here is:
Do you think perhaps there wouldn’t have been the legislative knee jerk reaction if the BP *hadn’t* shown up in such a demonstrative way?
Nowadays we are very wary of emotional, immediate reaction legislative efforts to pass even more onerous laws in the response to a recent shooting, did the BP shoot themselves in the foot?
^Also ^screw ^the ^NRA ^for ^supporting ^that ^bullshit
SoupSamichGuestDecember 17, 2019 at 8:08 pm
I am a firm believer in moderation in everything open carry is not harmful in, and of, itself, but people open carrying full fledged rifles or open carrying anything in places where it’s not legal, only makes the rest of us that open carry legally and responsibly look bad.
That being said. Nothing I can think of is less intimidating than an over/under or side by side shotgun. You have 2 rounds, the longest reload time of anything, and (with the exception of slugs) extremely limited lethal and effective range.
