This would be for the st laurant river qc canada, pretty much in the summer you find these fish everywhere, but in winter its like they all go somewhere else?

I spearfish so im in the water looking for fish and besides carp and drum fish its dead.

Curious where the game fish would spend the winter?

I’ve heard some say they go to Ontario but not sure how they could get through the dams and how they would know where to go?

Maybe they go deeper? I dive 30ft and there was nothing there. Possibly they go to the channel at 60+ ft?

Different fish do different things in the winter, but for the species you’re referring to they just go to different depths and change behavior. As an example, bass go deep and become lethargic. They conserve energy and are more likely to bite slow moving easy targets. Pike on the other hand can better tolerate colder water. They are more active than bass but are not at the sane depths.

University of Idaho did a research project on smallmouth bass where they studied their movements for a year, and they found that many bass moved as far as 62 miles, and some as far as 150 miles. So bass do for sure migrate, usually based on their spawning patterns which happen in the spring
