Correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t the line be more taught for euro nymphing?

This is my first time trying after watching videos and reading articles. I’m just using my 5wt 8-6 diamondback all American. It’s definitely very different from traditional fly fishing buut seems doing with my gear with a euro leader and flies.

I’m a fly fishing newb, but went nymohing with a guide in the Sierra’s over the summer – can you nymph all winter (if you can access the water and bear the cold)? Or is there a “trout season” ?

I’ve found keeping the sighted 45 degrees against the water helps to detect the strikes
