Fly Fishing Community brethren. I am heading to Park City, UT for Christmas and have 4-5 days all to myself to fish while my family skis. I plan on exploring the Provo and Weber (if flows are good). I am wondering if any FFC friends have any pointers or advice. I am not trying to cut out the local shop as I intend buy local bugs and hire at least 2 guides. Just looking to learn from the community. I have been reading that Griffith’s gnat, small baetis, midge nymphs and an occasional streamer should be part of my gear. Anybody have any advice and for that matter interested in wetting a line with an out of towner?

I found the pressure in the area to be extremely high starting at 11am or so, fish before that near the PC area and then move farther out. Could be different this time of year though, I was there in July.

I have fished the lower provo many times in January and had a marvelous time. I mostly fished size 8 hares ears in the fast water and did great. I always had the river to myself.

Be sure to keep some sow bugs with you. The provo has a large population of them. Local fly shop can give you details on which variant is working at the time.

Bring some sow bugs, Fly Fish Food should be able to help with bugs and tying tutorials.

I’d hit up the folks Western Rivers Flyfisher for guise service.

I fished the Middle Provo, just past the dam, hired Utah Pro Fly Fishing as a guide they were great. I was there in the Summer so don’t know about the winter, but caught 5 nice sized trout in 4.5 hours.
