So last time I fished I was like 14 and with my dad, that said I’m 22 now and don’t know shit about fishing equipment from pole to bait to tackle box. Any tips? (I’m poor so budget friendly is recommended).

Here’s a kit for 25$ they make them for bass, catfish, or trout. Solid beginner setup ready to fish. Hit up a Wal mart for some worms and find some water. Good luck have fun! https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/shakespeare-catch-more-fish-spinning-rod-and-reel-combo-for-trout

You can get a decent rod/reel combo from any chain sporting goods store. A medium weight spinning reel setup is probably easiest to start out. I think the simplest rig that can catch a variety of fish is just a hook, sinker, and nightcrawler for bait. I would source YouTube for anything further, but that should be a good starting point.

You’ll see people on YouTube fishing bass with $500 rod and reels and it’s laughable. I have an ugly stik I’ve had for 15+ years, was probably $30, and a $30 Shimano reel that was on sale (few years old now), and they pull in fish just fine. If anything, buy good line. I recommend trilene, 8lb will do you for bass and trout.
Keep your eyes open for garage sales, or online. You can pick up old boxes of tackle for cheap.
    Good luck!
