After going with my brother to the range, for the first time in years, I am looking to buy a hand gun. I have already applied for my Foid (thanks for that hoop to jump through Illinois), and I should be getting it any day now.

I am looking for something I can take to the range and have fun with all day and something I can EDC once I get that license.

Recently my wife had to fire a problem employee who gets out of jail (yeah, it’s a pretty interesting story) in about 5 months and she would be more comfortable if I had something other than a golf club if he shows up. Also, there have also been a few incidents in the neighborhood and I would like to have something on my hip for dog walks early morning, or late night.

I have been looking at the G19, G48, and G43x. In a perfect world I would buy the 19 for home and range and 48x for EDC, but you know, wives (you don’t need 2, start with one).

The 19 seems a little too thick to be comfortable EDC, and the 43x seems like it would be uncomfortable all day at the range, which seems to put me at the 48 with the Shield Arms mag (if it is ever available).

Am I on the right path? With the limited place I can carry in Chicago should I not even worry about concealed carry and just grab a 19?

    Thanks

    Tl;dr

G19, 43x, or 48 (Shield Arms mag) for only handgun. EDC, HD, and range shooter.

G26. East to conceal. Then throw a g19 mag in it at the range.

Go to a range that rents Glocks, try out a 19, 26, and the single stacks.

I would never recommend a single stack for HD, the 19 is a good in-between size that’s both portable with a good quality holster yet you can hold your own in an actual gunfight without having to worry about running out of ammo.

Just my 2 cents but I carry a Glock 19 gen 4 basically all day everyday at work concealed. They are very manageable size wise. The key is to get a good holster.
