    Caught our first blue today (we’ve always caught channels before,) and trying to skin that thing was an abject nightmare.

    Yes, we watched all the YouTube videos where people blithely grab the skin with pliers and slice it away in one fell swoop. It was not happening at our house.

    I’m guessing we need a better fillet knife. I’d appreciate recommendations! Also, if you think there are other factors in play, please let me know. At this point, it’s going to take a lot of persuasion to get my S/O to fish for blues again.

    Attach the head to a nail of some sort, cut them behind the gills, grab skin flaps with catfish skinners, pull down towards tail

    You have to pin them on something sturdy and pull. It doesn’t come off easy

    I just filet the fish. I try no to burst the gut cavity so it doesn’t get shit on the meat. Literally.

    Cut around the head and gills . Pull the skin off with a pliers of your choice . It ain’t rocket science .
