You know why, I’ve neglected so far due to expenses but I’m in Texas and with how things are going I’ll probably need to defend myself

In texas there is no license or registration required to purchase a firearm. To conceal carry you’ll need to do this :

There is a NICS background check required for all purchases from a store. You can purchase from an individual ~~with~~ without the check.

    Personal suggestions :

A mid size framed pistol in at least 9mm. 40 or 45 caliber or even 10mm are also great options. Good luck finding ammo atm for reasonable prices.

AR15 platform carbine rifle chambered in .223 or 5.56 (preferably 5.56) along with as much ammo as you can afford so that you can get some range time.

On order to save ammo and money you should get some snap caps to practice dry fire drills so that you can get your trigger discipline/skills in order.

Go to an lgs and get an ar-15

Edit: literally get whatever you can afford. If there is time/capital to upgrade it down the road then so be it. Make sure you can pay for it some form of optics with it.

Edit again: also someone already said this but make sure it’s a 5.56 rifle. That will give you flexibility. If you need kit from a comrade you don’t want to be limited by a .223 rifle.

Gun show. It’ll be a shitshow but you’ll be able to buy a gun and some ammo. Be prepared to pay out the ass.

You mentioned price being a factor so my recommendations are a cheap 9mm or a .380 ACP handgun, or a 12-gauge shotgun. Pump is cheaper.

If you can find an AR within your price point, get one of those in 5.56x45mm. But sadly prices on those have skyrocketed.

The Hi-Point 9mm carbine is only $300 and extremely reliable, accurate, and durable. HP has a bad reputation because they made one bad $100 pistol. If you need something cheap this or a mossberg 500 is the way to go.

If this is your first gun, get a Ruger 10/22

It’s cheap, it’s ammo is cheap, and it’s a good first gun.

Hey I am confused about something. Why are people on this subreddit in fear for their lives, like their doors are gonna get broken down by nazis or something? I know something crazy recently happened and deserves consideration but why are many people suddenly in need of guns? Is something going to happen?

In Texas cant you just go to any fire department or church and tell them you lost your gun and need another one? I understand they are low on ammo, too, but its worth a shot…
