I really hope people eventually accept bullseye snakeheads. I’m totally fine with people catching and eating them, but it makes me sad seeing all the hate they get. They are labeled as evil invasive animals that are insanely aggressive and that isn’t true at all (I don’t know enough about northern snakes, but I believe this for bullseye snakehead). They’re not native sure, but the canals you find them in aren’t even natural. The cichlids aren’t native, the armored catfish aren’t native, the peacock bass aren’t native… and people are realizing that snakeheads aren’t that bad for the environment.

Small world! I know exactly where this is and fish it from my jon boat all the time. I’ve pulled a 9.5lb snakehead out of there. And a 12lb snook, 6lb peacock, 5.5lb largemouth, and even a 20lb tarpon.. one of the coolest places to fish in the world to be able to catch all those species in the same water.

I release all my snakehead and will continue to do so. For every snakehead I catch, I catch 4 largemouth.

Even if you go to the first canal that snakehead were found in about 20yrs a go, you’ll see healthy populations of bass. There is no evidence that I can find to support the claim that snakehead kill other fish. Just the news being the news.

Obviously I’m not legitimately sad that we don’t have a particular invasive species, but I’m kinda sad we don’t have snakeheads. They’re damn delicious.

I don’t mind if u eat a snake but don’t shame this fish for eating a bluegill. Legit every predatory fish species in our canals eat bluegills ie: largemouth bass, peacock bass, snook, tarpon, catfish, cichlids, clown knifefish, bowfin, gar and yes snakehead eat bluegills. I’ve really started to fully target these species and first hand have found that they’re really just misunderstood. Snakeheads are labeled as these killers that walk on land and eat everything in sight but that’s really false. They can’t even walk on land. And they won’t hit everything in site. I’ve had snakes completely ignore my lures. I hope it’s time we all recognize this species as a gamefish because I’m so sick and tired of this hate that’s fueled my mass hysteria and lies.
