Hi all! I recently picked up an early L.C. Smith field grade in fantastic original condition. Upon close inspection, I noticed two “anomalies” as it were: 1. the checkerin is ever so slightly off center relative to the action when viewed from above (something I’ve seen in photos of other field grades) and 2. One barrel is ever so slightly thicker in the wall than the other (both are full choked as confirmed by a choke gauge). How common is this? I realize the field grade was a working man’s tool more than a gentleman’s fowling piece, so I am not particularly upset by it, just interested in understanding what’s normal.
