Thinking of going to my LGS today to pick up something new. I’ve been looking at the Henry lever actions for a bit now. Does anybody have experience with these. What about the Marlins…I’ve heard their quality has gone down. I’m really wanting it in .44 mag, but open to other calibers like the .357 or 30-30. This gun will just be used for mostly target (preferably pumpkins and watermelons) and the occasional deer hunt and other critters like hogs.

I have a Henry lever .357/.38. I dislike the tube loading–would MUCH prefer side gate. It is a great shooter, but I wouldn’t buy it again until they make it in a side gate loader.

Henry has started introducing some loading-gate models, but none in .44mag yet last I looked.

Everybody loves their lever guns, they just arent good suppressor hosts if thats a thing youd want in the future, overall quality is good. Their 22’s are zamack where as the others are the actual advertised metals like brass, case hardened steel

The forestock is larger on the Marlins, the Henry is small if you have normal hands. I have a few of each and I would go with the Marlin.

I have 2 henry .22s a rifle and the mares leg and love both of them. Great fun and easy to tech people who’ve never shot a gun before, the mares leg is just for more cheap fun from the hip though 😉
