I don’t think we should be flying them anywhere. The Confederacy was a different country. They were specifically *not* Americans when that flag flew. It makes as much sense as flying a Prussian flag. It has absolutely nothing to do with firearms rights
Also, it offends a shit ton of people who we want on our side. They vote and are just as essential to helping safeguard our freedoms as anyone else.

I think it primarily has to do with the fact that it’s been around for so long. Most people who fly it don’t realize it’s about racism. It’s become a country boy thing rather than a racist thing. Southern pride not white supremacy, white pride I could see. But there is a thing as black pride and Latin pride, there’s nothing wrong with pride. But yeah racism is wrong just people are misinformed and many times people attack them for it. Like that video of the guy pulling up to do some work for a black couple. He was refused work because he had that flag on the back of his truck and he looked extremely confused as to why, because he doesn’t see it as a racist symbol but a southern pride symbol. Misinformation and miscommunication. I don’t fly the flag and I see how at one point in time it was definitely a race thing, but times change and meanings change. Gay used to mean happy and now it means homosexual. Regardless, hate doesn’t help the situation from either side. Just my two cents that nobody cares about.

“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” We need as many allies in our community as we can get. The rebel bars are pretty off-putting to a lot of people… no reason to hang on to something that makes us look like a bunch of evil, ignorant assholes.

I’m from the South. Symbolism can change over time. The Swastika started out as a religious logo, then was appropriated, and is now largely seen as symbolizing a hateful regime. By the same token, I’d argue that even if the Confederate flag was started by slave owners, and even if its display post-Civil War was used with racist intent, that what the flag (or any symbol) symbolizes is not objective fact. People displaying the flag are not necessarily agreeing with the racist origins of it; I think some of it has to do with being proud of being from the South for all the cultural things that make us unique. To say that all we are as a culture is racists with racist roots is absurdly reductionist.
All of that said, I think we should **not** display as a 2A symbol.
As symbolism is subjective to those flying the flag, it’s subjective to those who see you fly it. I don’t look at Confederate flag and instantly jump to racist, but a lot of people do, and we don’t want to alienate masses of people out of stubbornness. Especially true when better symbols exist (Gonzales flag and No Step On Snek). We need their support, and stopping the use of ambiguous symbols makes us less of a target for judgement, and makes us more open to minorities.
Last, we also have to realize that the flag is still used by people who do use it for its original symbolism: white supremacy. I wouldn’t display the flag publicly because even if all my symbolism logic is sound and people buy it, I *still* can be confused with white supremacists and those that actually wish the South would have won. Not worth the hassle to me, and it doesn’t seem worth it for our cause.
Given the choice between a Confederate flag or more American gun owners, it seems like an obvious choice.

I mean fly what you want sure….but just because you can do something doesn’t mean one should. Like i could get within 5 inches of someones face and whisper prayers to moloch, doesn’t mean i should.
We need more minorities and the letter people (not three letter) in the 2A circle. Because once we have some 5 tone hair color gender fluid wolf kin buying an AR-15 we’ll be able to stop the steppers from taking our guns in more way than one. Because once those people start realizing some of their elected officials want to take their favorite gun away…… well lets just say democratic primaries will get interesting.
So actually yes…inclusivity might be a good thing

Article is misleading as most southern states still fly their Confederate flags (it’s their state flags) only most people aren’t educated enough to know that.
