I have an opportunity to buy a nucanoe flint for a great price in great shape. Would you guys recommend it? Is it stable enough to stand on? I’m 5’9″ 170 lbs. Any input is appreciated.

Also, 99% of my fishing is small lakes and rivers. I won’t be on the ocean at all or any rivers that have rapids.

At your size most kayaks are going to be just fine. When you start getting over 6′ 4″ and 245+ you need to start worrying about the size of your kayak and also since you’ll be on smaller water…..I don’t see any reason why you should have trouble.

I bought the flint in order to take a 55lb dog with me and I have been very happy with it. I primarily use it as one if my river boats but have crossed the lake to reach the river. I bought the riser for the seat so I don’t stand and fish but think it is plenty stable to do so.

One of the trade-offs Nucanoe makes in most of their designs is stability over speed, meaning you should be fine in those waters. I ran a Frontier 12 out in the PNW, 1-3km offshore with a 2hp outboard and I never felt like flipping (not the same thing as being safe, mind you).

I wouldn’t trust the flint’s narrower beam for stand-up fishing as the F12 has done, but it should be ideal for your conditions. Lots of customization options available if you tinker, but of course all of that comes with some added weight compared to other boats.

I absolutely love mine! Had it for one season so far and couldn’t be happier. From the weight to the stability the nucanoe is freakin perfect for me. From bass fishing to giant pike it has been a workhorse for me this past year. I have a ton of videos of me fishing from it if ya care to watch.
