I’m looking at doing a budget build for my first rifle. I’m wanting to keep it stamp free and on the more affordable side so I was going to start with the PSA 300BLK 10.5” that comes with an SBA3 and then swap a 12.5 barrel and probably a longer handguard for aesthetics and extra mounting room. Anyone have opinions on good quality barrels that don’t break the bank and will work with the stock .750 pistol length gas system? Thanks. Also any links to 11-11.5” handguards would be much appreciated.

I’ll start by saying that 300 Blackout is not a budget round, as it’s pretty expensive to buy compared to .223/5.56 ammo. Buying a complete upper just to swap in a new barrel immediately is also not very budget friendly. I’d highly recommend that if you buy a complete upper, you shoot it as is before deciding if you want to change anything. You never know, it might end up being perfect as is for what you do.

Just buy the parts for your upper and have someone assemble it or do it yourself if you’re handy. Cheap upper $40, CMMG 12.5” 300 BLK barrel $140, $40 gas block, $15 or less gas tube. The 11” – 11.5” handguard is going to be the pricey part as not a lot of manufacturers make them in that length. I want to say LaRue, Troy, Midwest Industries, Matrix Arms, and SLR Rifleworks are the only ones that do. If anyone knows others, chime in.
