Well everyone, I’m just here to tell you to protect your fly gear. I learned the hard way. My truck was broken into and I lost all of the fly fishing gear and spinning gear I ever owned last night to some crack head who just saw a backpack. Left me with the rods. Needless to say I’m devastated because it had more sentimental value than monetary. Years worth of gear gone to be dumped in a dumpster. Just be smarter than me and don’t keep your gear inside your car. Time to start over…

    What a bummer…

    >Years worth of gear gone to be dumped in a dumpster

This hurts more, because you know the person that broke in has no idea what that stuff is worth or what it means to you. Just desperate, looking for the next fix.

Its sad. For both of you.

I feel your pain man. 2 years ago my truck bed door opened on the freeway without me noticing it and my gear box must have felled out the back. I only found out a couple days later. All my gear, 4 fly boxes full of my ties… Waders, rods, stuff, everything but the rods. Sucks man but hey. Were still alive its only stuff right ??

I think I saw your post in r/Columbus. Sorry for your loss, losing fishing gear you’ve had and fought with is terrible. Only advice I can give is keep an eye out on Craigslist. The crack head who broke in may try to make a quick buck with the fishing gear and price it super low not knowing what it is. Best of luck

Look around in the area and you may find your stuff. My car got broken into and my sling pack stolen but some landscapers found it up the road and i was able to get it back.

Ouch. Do you have stickers or anything on your vehicle, how did the break In Happen? Just a bag in plain view?

I came back to my SUV in San Francisco to see the door open. I had left it unlocked, but luckily didn’t have anything there…stole my ray bans and a roll of quarters.
