So I bought a ruger m77 stainless chambered in .300 win mag from a guy going through a divorce a while back for a smoking deal.

I deer hunted with it some and then it’s just been sitting for a few years.

I’ve toyed with trying to build this into a long range/ slightly tactical rifle.

My question is, in yalls opinions, would it be worth messing with, or could I buy a decent starter rifle for less than I’d sink into it.

Full disclosure: I’m not looking to compete or anything, just kind of dip my toes into the long range world

You don’t really see tactical rifles built on m77 actions. It will get the job done to shoot some long range, but I’d go a different direction for a purpose built rifle.

The cost to rebarrel the M77 alone will cost you more than most starter rifles will. The biggest issues with that platform is the lack of stock options. You have hunting stocks or you will need something custom inletted for it.

I looked at this route for my own M77, but it seemed a lot more involved than it should be.
