If anyone has some ‘interesting’ ways of utilizing the animal, I’m all ears!

I’ll brain tan the pelt, make some tallow candles from her fat and I kept some blood to do some tracking training with my dog. I’ll make and pressure can some gelatin and broth.

I’m that crazy lady that ages and plucks my grouse 🤷‍♀️

If you skin the foreleg’s out to the hoof, there are tendons that make excellent dog chews or hide glue. Also, if you soak the hoof in boiling hot water you can pull them off for other projects

Roast the bones, collect the marrow for flavor use, boil bones like beef stock, then boil them again until completely soft and mash them up and throw them into the compost bin for garden fertilizer (works best if you’re hot composting, if not you can burn or char them in the woodstove and chuck em out with the next ash cleaning).

Congratulations! Thats cool you try and get as much as you can out of the animal. I need to start doing that but were I’m at we kill alot of deer, it’s a huge job to get all of them cut up and processed.

Doesn’t the pelt shed like crazy? Is there any way to deal with that? I’d really like to use it, but If it means vacuming twice a day I’ll pass.
