So I had a life changing experience last week. I went to the doctor for a checkup…I go very 3 months just to get some scripts refilled and bloodwork usually. Anyway several years ago I had the DNA test done where they can tell you about what genes you carry that can increase chances of a variety of conditions. I actually carry a gene that can cause cardiovascular issues which have killed a majority of people in my family.
So my blood pressure is a little high and my cholesterol or triglycerides or something was getting high and he said he was going to put me on a diet. I need to lose some weight too. But he said that to lower my triglycerides to eat trout or salmon twice a week. I said cool…I can do that.
Which brings me to this. Farm fresh trout in the store for me is $14.99 lb. so it only makes sense to harvest fish I catch. For my family even once a week this would mean harvesting about 100-120 lbs per year fileted. Our limit is 7 per day.
I’ve always been a catch and release guy. I feel like my outlook on fishing now may change since I’m no longer fishing for fun but for food.
