Anyone else catch the obvious political commentary? Ivan and the count are both Cossacks in a 1932 movie just 7 years after the Whites lost to the Red Soviets. At first the count (representing communism) seems civilized but turns out to be a “savage” hunter seeking out the “civilized” Westerners. Quite obvious and too clichè.

Yep me too ! One of many short stories I had to read
for an Eng-comp class. This poor guy would surely be creeped if he'd seen all the horror movie's we've all seen.
An apt title, with any other
game the advantage is usually with the hunter,
it is the opposite here in this case, it's the quarry that has the advantage here.
After all these years later I still remember a word in the story's very last sentence – maybe it was the last word ! 'Repast'.

I liked it. Mostly 'cuz the set looked exactly like the one in the original "King Kong". Also, after listening to "Tales of the Texas Rangers " @ dumb.com for the past couple of years, was nice to see "Ranger Jace Pierce", Joel McRea, in the flesh. Now, if only "Dr. Crazy" had been Lugosi, this would have gone from a fair to a very good film, IMHO.

This movie IS comparable to the short story this screenplay is adapted to – thus the edit to my previous comment.
The short story is short(lol), concise and to the point. There is not much imagery in the story if any, except for the descriptive purpose – nothing that allows the mind to wander setting its own scenes and vibrancy. It is an excellent read and an excellent story. The movie does fine justice to the novel and Robert Johnson is impeccable to his character. You can read this short story right here on You Tube, which only adds to the pleasure. Thanks again for uploading this great movie.

This is a damned great movie! I was so surprised to find it uploaded…. a great movie for a late Saturday night. Robert Johnson' acting is superb and if not mistaken, the drunkard brother of Fay Wray is the same guy who found her starving in the street and recruited her to go to Skull Island in the original KING KONG. Also Robert Johnson, actor par excellence, was a favorite of Alfred Hitchcock and starred in many of his 'early' movies –
JAMAICA INN being most notable, with a stellar cast including Charles Laughton, Robert Newton and introducing Maureen O'Hara.
This is non comparable to the book. 99% of all books are better than their movie counterparts, that goez without saying and virtually across the board. However, this movie deserves its' due as Robert Johnson is superb.
