Doesn’t matter how “radical” the belief is, we need far more than we have. There was the Vox documentary about a “far right 2nd amendment militia group,” operating in the south. We need more groups like that. I dont agree with the beliefs of the group itself but I absolutely agree with them congregating to flex their 2nd amendment rights. I would absolutley join one if there was one around me but there isnt anything. This country is going down a dark path and we need to protect our rights no matter the cost.

Be very careful calling your group a militia. Seek legal advice on the laws of your state and how federal laws apply.

VA requires all “militias” to be under civilian authority.

    > and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

Does civilian power only mean the elected county board of supervisors or could it mean a civilian board of directors? Not tested in the courts to my knowledge.

So maybe just call it a gun club. The press will still call it a militia but it will minimize legal problems. Maybe.

Again consult with an attorney in the state in which you reside.

What we need is more states & countries to organize such bodies. A militia has to be formed by request of some civil body to have legitimacy like it or not. A group of friends and neighbors forming the “Elm Street Militia” are a gang or organized crime depending on their actions. A city council, mayor, or sheriff calling upon militias to be form and you and your neighbors form the “Elm Street Militia” has a civil call to arms behind it. It’s been this way throughout our history. The Minutemen were formed at the request of the Continental Congress. Posses in the old West were formed via warrant of a Judge.

That’s what is making what is going on in Virginia different from the militia movements of the 90’s and the past. These aren’t just a bunch of random people. This is a call to arms by a civil authority.
