I did a lot of trout fishing in NE Indiana (Pigeon River)…

I always use an ultra lite set up (4wt) but anything that is sensitive enough to feel lighter bites will work.

I had luck running live bait (red worms/crawlers/etc) on hook, line, sinker set ups as well as small spinners (I like mepps).

As far as waders, down there, it always depended on the water temp for me. Nothing better then wading in shorts and wading boots in the summer. I also did some shore fishing on the rivers especially around dams.

Let me know if I can help more! Indiana needs more trout fisherman

As a total aside, if you can afford it, I recommend trying fly fishing. Great for trout and so much fun.

But, I’d talk to a local fishing shop to see exactly what line and lures to get. Also, check the local regulations to see if live bait is aloud or not.

A lighter line weight is good for trout because they can be picky and may get scared by something too noticeable.

1-2 inch crank baits like a rapala are really good. Spinners and spoons too. Trout will attack these like crazy.

Edit: by crank bait I meant jerk bait, although both are similar and a swim bait could also be used.
