    Target species- whitetail.
Trail cams give a lot of information but not wind direction.
As I review my photos once a month, I’d like to know wind direction as to see how it correlates to deer movement on the properties I hunt.
So, what app or sites do you use to accurately annotate wind direction on a given night and specific time(if possible)?
Cheers and good luck this season

Stupid question: wouldn’t it be easier to put a small ribbon or flag out where the camera can get it in the picture?

you could use a weather almanac / noaa historical weather datasets. https://gis.ncdc.noaa.gov/maps/ncei/normals&layers=1

i would advise you not to though. The reason is that it’s unlikely you’ll be able to pinpoint the draw your camera is working in – and you’ll likely get summary regional data that is going to give you some bad info.

The wind will get really swirly in a draw as the sun heats up the cool air over the day. combine that thermal effect with a light weather event breeze and you got some swirl yo.

The string is the best answer. A white piece of yarn or floss will do the trick – not so close to the camera where it’s going to set it off

All that said – I think you’re over thinking the details. you’re going to have better success focusing on tracking down their beds – or doe beds – and making sure you’re in the woods for the absolute most amount of time during the rut.

wunderground has pretty good historical data that I use for the same purpose. If a bucks traveling on a certain wind at a certain time, that’s where I look when the conditions align again.

You’re overthinking this way too much.

Not historical but the windy app is one of the better weather apps and shows wind direction. The local wind direction will vary due to geography as others noted but- for info during season if you can correlate wind direction with the local direction you can be prepared for which direction it is blowing on a given hunt day.

I lick my finger and stick it in the air. Works pretty well
