I just picked up an old pietta 1858. As I’ve always wanted to get into BP for the historical significance! However I’m aware of cylinders to make them shoot .45LC. This model was marked on its tag .50 cal. But all the cylinders I see are for .44 conversion, would one still function? Is it a case of the tag being mis marked?

Use a set off calipers on the cylinder throats and you will have your answer. Easy as that.

I’ve never heard of a 50 cal 1858 revolver, but even a ruler across the muzzle should be enough to know.
