My experience is that the cheaper safes (meaning sub-$1000) tend to have strong doors, sides, and top. One of my safes is a 64 Gun Cannon that I got at Costco for like $800 on sale. I used a standard home drill to drill through the back to run some cables through it. This kind of safe MUST be secured to the floor and against a wall as the bottom and back offer no physical security; they are essentially plated drywall type material for fire protection. Do not consider really cheap Stack-On type safes to be gun safes; those are wall lockers at best.
