    I would say it really depends on how far you’ll be walking/hiking for your hunts, aswell as your physical condition.

    The pretty thick barrels that are used on target and Varmint rifles are great for longer shooting strings but they are quite heavy and cumbersome if you take them on a hunt where you have to walk decent distance and need to shoot offhand.

    If you’re shooting off of a tripod and have a short walk a heavier rifle isn’t too big of deal. Some of the guys I compete with hunt off a tripod on their back deck with their +20lbs (+9.5kg) competition rifles.

    The nice thing about having one rifle is you’ll have a very good understanding of the flight trajectory and wind holds in different conditions.

    I’m a strong believer of quality over quantity when it comes to glass. I ran a $4kusd scope/mount across 4 rifles till I could afford to get another one.
