Reply To: Anyone with experience trolling with rods behind their kayak? I can’t bring my fishing yak to my in laws’ cottage, so I had to modify their rec kayaks I bought them. I’ve been using rear view mirrors and setting my drag really light so I can catch the hits, can’t put the rods in front. Any advice?

I troll with rods at the rear. I use reels that gave a loud drag, set them tight enough to bend the rod tips when bit, but loose enough to let the line out. Once i hear a hit, i drop everything and keep the rod tip up and reel. I’ve some fish, but gotten some good ones too. Not the best strategy but it works
