    The telltale sign being the magazine cutoff, which is what the lever on the underside is for. After awhile, standing militaries around the world saw that a magazine cutoff was not as necessary as first thought. They were first introduced shortly after magazine rifles, with the logic that soldiers in battle would empty their magazines in short-order under stress, and thereby would be expending far more ammunition than necessary. So, it was single-feeding only until the order was given to feed from the magazine. The Swiss introduced a small sheet-metal tab which blocked the function of the magazine cutoff by installing onto the protruding arm of the lever. Maybe I could get you some pictures of mine later.
