Leupold Scopes: American Rifle Scopes’ Authority

Leupold & Stevens is taking the leading position in the world’s market of hunting rifle scopes. How can this be explained? Leupold’s Scopes have the highest quality and reliability, flawless performance in the most demanding conditions.

Leupold scopes are all about the quality

Leupold has manufactured its first rifle scope in far 1947. Since that time all their scopes come with the lifetime warranty and this is the best proof of reliability of Leupold products. Usually most of the warranties work if you are the original owner, but for the Leupold it does not matter. Everyone is entitled to a fair deal. That was a company’s mission when it started to produce the rifle scopes. The same principles we see at Leupold & Stevens today.

Leupold will repair or replace any of its rifle scopes if it is failed. The maximum repair term is 5 days, but usually it takes no more than a couple of days (plus the shipping time).

Each produced product is a subject to stringent quality control. Leupold scopes are tested for strength in a special machine that simulates intensity during the shot. Every scope is tested during the intensity of 750 g. During the factory test it must withstand 5000 cycles to make sure the highest durability and reliability.

Leupold & Stevens want to be sure that their scopes will not fail during the hunting. According to them no other company subjects their products to such severe tests.

Optical Manufacturer of the 2013

All hunters and even professional shooters admit the quality of these scopes. E. g. Leupold & Stevens is Optics Manufacturer of the year in 2013 according to the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW).

To get this award manufacturer should be the best in the following criteria: distribution policy, marketing, sales and promotion; logistics and operations; industry support. “Such award is very important because it comes from professionals – people who buy, sell, and use our products” – said vice-president of marketing, Andy York.

Leupold VX-6 scopes

The range of scopes manufactured by the Leupold has been significantly expended in 2013. All leading world manufacturers have rifle scopes with 6:1 zoom ratio.

Today Leupold VX-6 series include ten models: 1-6×24 CDS, 1-6×24 CDS Illuminated Reticle, 2-12×42 CDS, 2-12×42 CDS Illuminated Reticle, 3-18×44 Side Focus CDS, 3-18×44 Side Focus CDS Illuminated Reticle, 3-18×50 Side Focus CDS, 3-18×50 Side Focus CDS Illuminated, 4-24×52 Side Focus, 4-24×52 Side focus CDS.

CDS means Custom Dial System which allows you to make quick ballistic adjustments for specific loads, conditions and calibers. It is very easy to change dials with ΒΌ MOA click increment. Side Focus allows you to make parallax adjustments (focus your scope) while you are looking trough the scope. Both 1-6×24 scopes and 2-12×24 CDS Illuminated Reticle include metric, so you can change dials with 1 cm click increment.

Leupold VX-6 scopes are built using Quantum Optical System technology and Xtended Twilight Lens System providing high brightness and contrast of the image. Manufacturer uses lead free, ecologically friendly glass compositions to minimize wave front error and increase resolution. Imaging becomes razor sharp across any light condition, even at the dawn and dusk hours.

To implement Xtended Twilight Lens System Leupold uses different specific coating on each lens of their scopes to optimize the transmission of low-light wavelengths. Human eye is the most sensitive to the green wavelengths. All manufacturers usually quote percentage of light transmission in this spectrum. However in twilight conditions blue/violet light take over the green light. Your eye does not see much light of blue/violet spectrum. If your scope will cut too much of it you will not be able to see anything.

Therefore Xtended Twilight Lens System uses lens coating that transmits the maximum of light across blue/violet spectrum without sacrificing the light transmission in visual spectrum. As a result Leupold scopes give you the imaging with greater definition and luminance than any other scopes.

VX-6 models have reticles with Illuminated extra-light Fire Dot. Hunter can adjust brightness from 0 to 12. Motion detector turns off illumination of the reticle if your rifle does not move within 5 minutes. It turns on illumination at the first move of your rifle as well.

In 1947 Leupold’s engineers were the first who started to pump air out of assembled rifle scopes and put dry nitrogen gas instead. They did it to prevent internal surfaces of the lenses from fogging. Nowadays Leupold’s specialists found another – even better method to prevent inner surfaces of the lenses from possible condensation: instead of a nitrogen gas they pump in mix of inert gases argon and krypton.

Leupold VX-R and HOG scopes

Leupold VX-R scopes have fiber optics LED system that allows using of illuminated reticle at the daylight. Besides, this technology ensures maximum light transmission and contrast of the reticle in the lowlight conditions. There is a bright dot within your eyeshot that is perfectly visible at the daylight. At the same time it is not too bright at the lowlight conditions. Leupold is the only manufacturer of the rifle scopes that offers fiber optics LED technology in combination with the motion detector.

Leupold VX-R comes with four variations of reticle: Fire Dot Duplex, Fire Dot Circle, Fire Dot 4 and Ballistic Fire Dot. Dot on the crosshair illuminates after turning on. Rest of the reticle stays unlit. This allows quick and accurate aiming.

Leupold HOG scopes were created exclusively for passionate boars hunters. The new model of this series has been introduced in 2012. It calls VX-R HOG 1.25-4×20 Fire Dot and combines benefits of the VX-R and HOG scopes. Fire Dot Pig Plex reticle was created exclusively for this model. This reticle is ideal for the terrain and conditions that wild boar favor.

The rifle scopes mentioned above are not all of the series that Leupold scopes present. They were mentioned because of some innovations. Leupold has incredibly various models of scopes, which are very popular. There is not enough room to overview all of them in one article. There is more than enough material to write a whole book.

Nowadays Leupold scopes represent following hunter models: VX-1, VX-2, VX-3, VX-3L, VX-6, VX-R, HOG, FX, Rimfire/Ultralight, Shotgun/Muzzleloader, Handgun, Competition, Crossbow, Prismatic, Rifleman.

In the tactical scopes segment Leupold offers following models: Mark 6, VX-R Patrol, Delta Point Reflex Sights, Mark 4 CQ/T, Mark 4 ER/T, Mark 4 HAMR, Mark 4 LR/T, Mark 4 MR/T, Mark 8, Mark AR and Tactical Prismatic.
